During a recent visit to Kilmarnock, Ayrshire in South-West Scotland, I came across the town’s library, housed in The Dick Institute. This is the central library for East Ayrshire. The Institute, opened in 1901, also hosts Ayrshire’s largest museum and art gallery space. It’s a beautiful building 😍 Libraries are so underrated now but if they all had a museum and café inside like this one they might be more popular.
Inside, there is a cafe offering readers a cuppa as they peruse an eclectic selection. Artwork commissioned by @metaphrog_art adorns the walls (visit my Instagram feed for images). It’s an unusual library and worth a visit as the additional rotating gallery exhibitions and museum can keep you entertained for hours.
